Matt Henriksen named SAC Baseball Player of the Week

Sophomore 3B earns honor for second time this year

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College third baseman Matt Henriksen has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday.  Henriksen earns this honor for the second time this season.

Henriksen, a sophomore from Hingham, Mass., batted .588 with five doubles and seven RBI to lead the Pioneers to a perfect 5-0 record.  The Pioneers (14-4) swept a two-game series against NCAA Southeast Region opponent St. Andrews and followed with a three-game sweep against SAC archrival Carson-Newman.

Henriksen went 10-for-17 on the week, while posting an .882 slugging percentage and a .682 on-base percentage.  He was also very impressive on defense as he went errorless in his 18 total chances, including a dozen fielding assists.

In the St. Andrews series, he went 7-for-8 with five RBI and three doubles, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance in the series finale. In game two of the C-N series, he went 2-for-4 and hit a game-tying RBI double in the ninth to send the contest into extra innings in a 9-4 Tusculum win.  TC rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the ninth to post the win.

Henriksen currently leads the SAC in hitting with a .426 batting average with seven doubles, a triple, four home runs and 18 RBI.

Tusculum returns to action on Tuesday as the Pioneers play a three-game mid-week series at regional opponent Barton.  The series begins with a Tuesday doubleheader at noon, followed by a 2 p.m. single-game on Wednesday.
