TUSCULUM BASEBALL RANKED NINTH IN NCBWA NATIONAL POLL

 

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --- The Tusculum College baseball team has climbed 13 spots and is ranked ninth in the nation according to the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll.

 

The Pioneers (11-0, 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference) received 273 total points and are off to the best start in program history.

 

Tusculum is also ranked second in the NCBWA Southeast Region Poll.  In regional ranking, TC garnered 97 points, including five first place votes as the Pioneers vaulted two spots from their No. 4 regional position.

 

Tampa remains the No. 1 team in the NCBWA poll as the Spartans have received 417 points, including 15 first place votes.  Central Missouri is ranked second, followed by Grand Valley State, UNC Pembroke, St. Cloud State, West Florida, Cal Poly Pomona, St. Mary’s, Tusculum and Mercyhurst to make up the national top 10.

 

UNC Pembroke is the top-ranked team in the Southeast Region with 101 points, along with five first place votes.  Tusculum is second, followed by Columbus State, Armstrong, Belmont Abbey, Mount Olive, USC Aiken, North Georgia, Francis Marion and Catawba.

 

Tusculum remains the only undefeated team in the region, following Tuesday’s 4-2 home victory over Limestone.

 

The Pioneers are scheduled to be on the road Wednesday afternoon for a 2 p.m. contest against regional opponent North Greenville (7-2), who is receiving votes in this week’s NCBWA Regional Poll.
