THE PHILOSOPHY OF HEAD COACH DOUG JONES

AND THE TUSCULUM COLLEGE BASEBALL PROGRAM

The philosophy of our program is very important to me and it requires a commitment from all of our players and coaches.  I want all of our players to understand what I am about, and I want them to understand what the priorities will be in our program. For me and my family GOD will always be first in our lives.  I want our players to know that they are playing for a Christian coach and we will provide opportunities for them to grow spiritually.

The two main goals that we have in our program are:  (1) Every player who comes in will graduate and (2) we will try to compete for championships every year.  Our players will understand that they are student’s first and baseball players second.  We as a staff will monitor on a weekly basis the academic progress of our players.  We have been fortunate enough to have had several players get an the opportunity to move on to pro ball and live out their childhood dreams.  But we all know that they won’t play the game forever; their college degree is what will give them the opportunity to be successful for the rest of their lives.

I am proud of what our student athletes have, and continue to accomplish in the classroom.  Each year our team GPA ranks at the top of the South Atlantic Conference, and several of our players are listed on the South Atlantic Conference Honor Roll.

The slogan that we live by in our program simply say’s “IT’S NOT ABOUT ME”.  We want players in our program that are unselfish and that are willing to do whatever it takes to help us win.  This slogan is not just words; we live this everyday in everything we do.  We are a family and I want our players to build the type of memories and relationships that will last forever.  Our players will be pushed to be the very best they can be, both on and off the field.  We will treat them with respect and we will require them to represent, their family, our institution, and our program in a first class manner at all times.
