BONNER, GOODMAN NAMED SAC BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK


ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College’s Rolondo Bonner and Craig Goodman have been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week announced league officials Tuesday. The Tusculum duo led the Pioneers to a three-game sweep over Concord, the defending WVIAC Southern Division Champions.
Bonner, a senior outfielder from Garner, N.C., batted .556 and scored eight times in the weekend series sweep over the Mountain Lions. Bonner went 5-for-9 in the series with a pair of doubles, a home run and five RBI. He also posted a 1.111 slugging percentage on the weekend. Bonner went 2-for-3 with four RBI in TC's 14-0 series opening win. The West Johnston High School graduate posted a double and a home run, while also tallying three runs, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly. In game two of the series, he went 1-for-3, while scoring three times and added another stolen base. Bonner wrapped up the series with a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored, a RBI and a double. Bonner finished the week with a .538 on-base percentage and didn't commit an error in his four total chances.
Goodman, a junior from Clearwater, Fla., recorded his second win in as many starts as he combined with three other pitchers on a 14-0 shutout of Concord. The Clearwater High School product tossed six innings, allowed two hits, walked one and struck out seven, giving him a team-best 16 strikeouts in his two starts. He limited the Mountain Lions to hit just .100 against him.
Tusculum is off to its second 5-0 start in school history and is ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II. The Pioneers will be on the road for its next five games, including Wednesday’s 2 p.m. non-conference contest at Mars Hill.
